Simple Screen Shade App Reviews

9 Customer Reviews:

I went though a few alternatives before finally finding this one, and I can tell anyone looking to stop wasting time and click "Purchase" now. I even tried GeekTool to put differnet tranluscent overlays on the screen out of despratation, and wish I would have discovered this app soonner. This is hands down the easiest to use screen dimmer of them all, and the most robust. The ability to have differnet shades on different monitors is huge, and the app handles resolution changes perfectly. And when I had a question, the developer was very responsive. If you own an Apple display, I honestly cannot understand how youre not using this app and still have your retinas unburned by the nuclear fire their ultra-bright monitors use for backlighting.

This is the app we have all been looking to use with our multi monitor setups! I have 7-8 montitors and i’m hoping this app can support more monitors in the future (supports 4).

This app is great. It’s easy to use and I like the in-menu design with hotkey support. Only thing I would add is a feature to save slots for multiple custom shade/color so I can flip through my own list instead of just the default sample shades.

I was looking for something to control my three cinema displays. This application is perfect, as it allows for indivual screen control (especially the screen from driven from the HDMI port). The only thing I would like is hotkeys for presets, but that is me just being nit-picky. Simple and effective.

Even though I only paid $1 for this app, the customer support goes above and beyond to help me with this product. Plus this is the only shader I’ve found that can support different tones across multiple monitors, which is great because one of my monitors is very bright.

For anyone looking for a specific app to dim monitors, this is really the one to buy. I purchaed two different apps before this one(don’t think this was on app store back then). Neither one worked for my dual monitor setup and they did not have the customization you have with this app, I will be recommending this app to everyone I know!

It really should be under medical. I have severe photophobia. No. I am not afraid of pictures or color… but light keeps from being able to look at a screen for extended periods of time. Millions of people suffer from this problem for many different reasons. For example, silent migraines, medications & Lymes’s disease... [Me]. But TBIs, regular headaches, autism spectrums, ADHD, absence seizures along wit any type of seizures, etc., can be triggered or exaggerated by light. Blues for me. At times I cannot turn down the light enough on the screen and see no matter how low I dim it. But it’s not the light as much as the hue/color. I need ambers. Irlen glasses are the answer for many. But they really are hard to afford, let alone find a specialist in many areas of the country…. but they work. And they work a lot like this application. I am looking for an app like this for my phone. Today I cannot read anything on my phone and the light is dim, dim. I am okay on the computer at this time though. So I am sending out a plea to the developer of this app… MARKET IT TO THE MEDICAL INDUSTRY! Let people, doctors know it is here. I really need it for my iPhone 6s Plus, iOS 9.1 too. ;) This is a great thing. The fact that I can control the color makes it priceless to me. Thank you! This is amazing. I can actually say the it is a life changer.

I really like this app. It’s simple and effectie. Works well in El Capitan. It’s the only one I’ve found after looking around a lot that allows the shade to be active in full screen mode. Other options, like Shades, work only on the main screen but will be deactivated in full screen mode. Simple Screen Shade allows the shade to be active in all desktop and fullscreen modes which is nice. However, when shifting from one screen to the other, it becomes inactive, making the monitor bright again during the transition. It’s not a huge issue, but it is annoying. Overall I say for it and buy it, it works very well, allows different colors of shading, and it’s reasonably priced.

Great app, one complaint

Love this app. It's clean, to the point, easy to use, and extremely useful. Would recommend this app to anyone annoyed with the high brightness of their display. My only gripe is it disables for a second every time you switch desktops. I'm constantly switching apps, so having to suddenly adjust to this brightness every time I want to switch can get annoying.

This app will change your monitor settings

Changed my monitor setting and now my monitor is dim all the time. Very annoying and the issue remain even after removing the app.

Great help for multiple screens

I work on three monitors but sometimes like to focus on one. With this app I do not have to unplug or turn off monitors. Really helpful.

Great!

Really like this, very simple. I naturally want the slider to operate the opposite direction and I wouldn’t mind being able to quickly adjust the color overlay from the dropdown menu. But those are just thoughts, works great!

Great app, but one flaw...

I just downloaded this app today and I love it! First off, I love the simplicity of the app. No clutter, and straight to the point. I am a student and I am always reading articles and word documents and I work late at night, so the color features are great, and very helpful in explaining which color is best for specific times of the day or night. If you don’t switch screens much, I would give this 5/5. The only MAJOR flaw is that when you transition screens from one to another (Desktop 1 to Desktop 2 with full screen apps, for example), it does not change the color immediately, and you’re temporarily blinded with the regular color of the screen until it switches a second later. Big flaw since I’m blinded for just a sec and it kind of defeats the purpose of the app. Please, please, please fix this! I really love this app! Will give 5 stars, recommend to classmates, and use for many, many years to come if we can get that glitch fixed!!

Great app. Suggestion

Very nice, simple app. I have had the app for a couple weeks now and i find myself using it everyday. Suggestion: I would like to be able to select the shade color directly from the icon drop-down menu. Its a bit of a pain to enter the shade center just to switch shade colors.

Nice app, but one major annoyance

I liked that you could control multiple monitors separately, but this app has a major quirk. When using mission control or swiping between desktops/full screen apps, the app wouldn’t work during the animation, so the screen would go to normal brightness before dimming back to your setting. I use mission control a lot and also swipe between desktops/full screen apps, so this was a major annoyance to have my monitor flash back to normal brightness then back to the dimmed level. Also, the mouse doesn’t dim along with the screen, so you’ll have a bright mouse cursor flying around the screen if you dim you monitor down a lot.

This is good, now I have no eye strain.

This is at the bottom list of apps and should be numero uno. The green tint is good for reading and I don’t need gunnar glasses anymore.
